Emergency Measures Organization (E.M.O.)

The Province of New Brunswick requires that each municipality, under the N.B. Emergency Measures Act, must be prepared to handle emergencies and disasters by establishing and maintaining an emergency plan.

Events that occur that would result in the activation of the EMO group usually happen without warning. In order to be prepared, emergency plans are developed by the EMO group, approved by Council and NB EMO and are tested periodically either with a mock exercise or a table top exercise.

We presently have an approved All Hazards Plan that deals with natural disasters and man made events. Currently the group is working on a Pandemic Influenza Plan. It has been forwarded to the Province and is now in the fine tuning stage.

In the event of a natural or man made disaster the Town of Hampton will be prepared to provide essential services. The Town is doing its part and you need to be ready to take care of yourself and those around you. Readiness can be as simple as having a supply of water, food, and emergency items handy.

The EMO group meets on a monthly basis at our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located in the Town Emergency Services Building to discuss and work on the many events that could occur as a result of one of these unplanned events.

The EMO team is currently seeking individuals with an interest in disaster response. For more information, please contact the EMO Director, Brian Fowler, at 333-2611 or emo@townofhampton.ca.
