What To Do If You Lose/Find An Animal

Lost and Found Pets

What To Do If You Lose Your Pet

If your pet goes missing, you should:

• Be prepared to give a detailed description of your pet, including distinguishing markings, tattoos, license tag number or microchip number.

• Look around your neighbourhood and ask your neighbours if they have seen your pet.

• Contact the Dog Control Officer Darin Clarke on his pager at 1-506-557-2000 (no charge) and file a lost pet report. Check back frequently and please call back to advise if your pet has been found.

• Contact local veterinary clinics.

• Visit local shelters in person. Animal service providers may describe your pet differently than you do. A description or photo is no substitute for your eyes.

• Post notices, preferably with a picture of your pet at local animal shelters, pet stores and veterinary clinics. Always ask permission before posting a notice.

• Place an ad in the lost and found section of local newspapers

What To Do If You Find A Stray Pet

If you find a stray pet, you should:

• Not approach the animal if it is showing signs of aggression. Take note of the animal's appearance including any distinguishing markings, the location and time you saw the animal. Call the Dog Control Officer Darin Clarke on his pager at 1-506-557-2000 (no charge) to report an aggressive animal at large.

• Approach the animal only if it appears friendly and you feel comfortable doing so. If you are able to catch the pet, keep it in a safe, secure place. Take note of the animal's appearance including any distinguishing markings, tattoos, or license tag number.

• Ask people in the area if they are familiar with the animal.

• Contact the Dog Control Officer Darin Clarke on his pager at 1-506-557-2000 (no charge) to file a found pet report. You may also request that the Dog Constable pick up the animal.

• Contact local veterinary clinics.

• Place an ad in the lost and found section of local newspapers
