Autumn in Hampton tartan
In 1956, a group of five Hampton ladies formed the Hampton Weavers Group. They received instruction from a woman from Fredericton.
By 1961, the group was renamed the Hampton Handicraft Group, as other crafters, including knitters and wood-turners joined the group.
At a meeting on July 10, 1961, the Hampton Handicraft Group unveiled the Autumn in Hampton tartan, which was designed and woven by the group.
Very little of the original tartan remains. Fortunately, local historian David G. Keirstead, was able, after a significant effort, to have the pattern replicated.
On December 9th 2008, Mr. Keirstead presented the Mayor and Council with a framed piece of his replica of the Autumn in Hampton tartan.
Mayor and Council were very pleased with the gift and it will be displayed in the Council Chambers.
